Pickleball on Maui
Recently at an event in Scottsdale Arizona I played my first game of Pickleball. I had been kinda shying away from it as it seemed like an aborted version of Tennis and as purest I was just against it, well I was mistaken. The workout is amazing though I played in 105 degree weather it was still a ton of fun. Pickleball has become increasingly popular on Maui, offering both residents and visitors a fun and engaging way to stay active. Here’s an overview of the Maui pickleball scene on the island:

- Located in Kihei, Kalama Park has several dedicated Kihei pickleball courts. It’s a popular spot for both casual and competitive play.

- Situated in Wailuku, this complex includes multiple courts and often hosts tournaments and leagues.
Waipuilani Park:
- Also in Kihei, Waipuilani Park features pickleball courts that are open to the public. It’s a great place for beginners and seasoned players alike.

- The Eddie Tam Memorial Center in Makawao provides additional courts for those in the upcountry area.

Tips for Players
- Join a Club: Becoming a member of a local club can help you stay informed about events and provide opportunities for regular play.
- Attend Clinics: Whether you're a beginner or looking to improve your skills, clinics and lessons are widely available.
- Stay Hydrated: Maui’s tropical climate can be demanding, so always ensure you have plenty of water during your games.
Equipment
- If you don’t have your own equipment, many clubs and parks offer rental options. Local sports stores also carry a range of pickleball paddles and balls.
Community
- The pickleball community on Maui is known for being welcoming and inclusive. It’s easy to find a game and make new friends on the court.
Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the sport, Maui offers a vibrant pickleball scene with plenty of opportunities to play and enjoy the game. One word of caution, I highly suggest stretching before playing no matter your physical type, I have seen a bunch of blown out hamstrings and rolled ankles.
